The sun (太陽) is the closest star to the Earth.
It descends upon us with a sense of vastness that governs the universe, appearing warm and gentle, yet at times extending outward with a sharpness like shards of glass, piercing and intense. The sun also hovers around us as a powerful force that seems capable of melting all things, while simultaneously taking on the presence of a watcher that observes without distinction between day and night.
This work visualizes not only the heat of the sun but also its sharp, needle-like intensity. The rays radiating from the sun are depicted as pointed, like the spines of a sea urchin, while the heat and vitality felt upon reaching the Earth’s surface are conveyed through red tonalities and dense, compact brushstrokes. During this process, images of a watcher, control, force, and power emerged, along with a vague desire to possess such power.
